Few professions have the potential to impact lives like teaching. Our , cohort-based teaching program offers a Master of Arts in Teaching in elementary and secondary education, along with coursework to support continued learning and accreditation. Teaching faculty focus on instructional strategies and methods, best practices, research-driven theory and practical experiences that guide teaching candidates through the licensure process, leading to an Oregon Preliminary Teaching License upon completion.

With a physical campus and modern classroom buildings, we are the only public university offering a site-based teaching degree in Central Oregon. Our cohort model fosters strong relationships with peers and faculty through in-classroom instruction. OSU-Cascades MAT students earn endorsements in elementary or secondary disciplines, with the option to add an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. The program can be completed in one or two years.

Teaching at OSU-Cascades is classified as in-person. However, the elementary endorsement is classified as hybrid as one required course is delivered through OSU Ecampus.

Experience That Prepares

Arden Van Beek is a ’24 alum who chose OSU-Cascades’ MAT program for its extensive classroom hours and immersive structure. She wanted real preparation before leading her own classroom. Through hands-on placements and rigorous coursework, she built the confidence and reflective practice that guide her teaching today. Now teaching Physics, Chemistry and AP Environmental Science at ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÜÕ¾ Tech Academy, Arden says the program helped her enter her first year energized, prepared and ready to make an impact. Her advice to future MAT students: lean in and take full advantage of every opportunity to grow.

Confidence Built in the Classroom

ºÚÁϳԹÏ×ÜÕ¾ native Ansley Duettra chose OSU-Cascades’ MAT program to give back to the community that shaped her. Small class sizes and close faculty mentorship meant she was never just a name on a roster. Professors challenged her thinking, supported her growth and helped her build confidence as an educator. Through immersive classroom placements, including a full classroom takeover during student teaching, she gained hands-on leadership experience and a strong understanding of classroom instruction. Now teaching fourth grade in Redmond, Ansley says the program prepared her to enter her first year feeling capable, grounded and confident.
